Across the continent, the key energy challenge is how to electrify millions of households, remote communities and small-scale entrepreneurs as quickly as possible. The 4th Nigeria Energy Forum 2019 (NEF2019) is set to upscale the development of sustainable energy services for all through a capacity building, training and development program for policymakers, business leaders, energy innovators, professional engineers, industry experts and academics in Nigeria and other African countries.

The theme for NEF 2019 is ‘Upscaling Clean Energy for Sustainable Development’. The forum aims to address energy challenges, build technical capacity, and promote energy innovation with focus on sustainable electrification, grid modernization, and smart energy technologies.

Over 250 participants are expected to attend 7 different technical, investment and training sessions, acquire new skills through practical exposure to modern energy technologies, and engage with expert speakers, exhibitors and training providers. The Forum will be held from April 9 to April 10 at the Admiralty Centre, Naval Dockyards, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.


Keynote speakers at the event include Ms. Carla Montesi, Director, Directorate-General for International Cooperation and Development in the European Commission, Prof. James Momoh, Chairman/CEO, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission; Dr. Weibe Boer, CEO, All On; and Engr. John Funso-Adebayo, NIEEE National Chairman

Another 25 expert speakers have confirmed participation at the forum, including Koide Takumi, Head Infrastructure, Japan International Corporation Agency, Nigeria; Ed. Ubong, MD/CEO, Shell Nigeria Gas Ltd., Adesola Alli, Head Renewable Energy, Sterling Bank; Ifeanyi Udoh, Head, Business Development, Schneider Electric; Ify Malo, Country Director, Power for All and Tony Carr. Hands-on Capacity Building Workshop

The forum will feature over 4 top-class hands-on capacity building workshops. These include: Making Bankable Energy Projects, by the Sterling Bank; Electrification Finance Initiative (ElectriFI) Nigeria Window Launch, an EU-funded project managed by EDFI Management Company; Ghana-Nigeria Climate Innovation Exchange, by GhCIC, Ghana and Empowering Young African Women in Energy, by IEEE HAC.

4th Energy Innovation Contest Finals & Awards

The 4th Energy Innovation Challenge is set to upscale the development of early-stage energy firms across Africa. The contest has received many submissions across the continent. The finals will pitch their proposed solution model at NEF 2019 and the winners will be announced. The winners will have the opportunity to:

  • Attend business development workshops, receive support from start-up incubators and a cash investment prize of up to USD 5,000 to demonstrate the proposed solution in the host community determined in collaboration with the organizers.

Launch of €30M Sustainable Energy Investment Fund

The NEF2019 will address key issues pertinent to mobilising local and foreign investments for sustainable energy development in Nigeria. The forum will feature the launch of the 30 Million Euro EU-funded multi-donor Electrification Financing Initiative’s Nigeria Window. The aim is to provide up to 30 million Euros in investments for off-grid and commercial and industrial captive power projects
